Bucharest - Romania

Bucharest- often described as Paris of the East, with many historical buildings, sights, and memories of communism left behind in the 80s. Travelling around is easy, with trolley buses and metro, just purchase a travel card as money is not taken on board. The national currency is the Lei or Ron, euros are not really accepted and the best and easiest way to access money is from an ATM machine, they are very easy to find. Restaurants are plentiful with staff speaking good English and English menus available. Food is good value, and l recommend Sarmale, a type of meat and spices dish wrapped in cabbage leaves with rosemary potatoes and polenta. Bucharest is a fairly safe city to walk about and many maps are available from hotels and tourist offices with easy to follow routes. A lively fascinating city full of food, culture and Romania traditions
